A number of positions as Assistant or Associate Professorships in Marketing

At the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Business and Management a number of full time positions as Assistant or Associate Professorships in Marketing is open for appointment from 1 June 2020 or soon thereafter. The Assistant Professorships are 4-year positions, and the Associate Professorships are permanent positions.

Job description

The ideal applicants demonstrate knowledge into the marketing field in general and in particular in relation to one or several of the highlighted areas: consumer marketing, retail and marketing channel, marketing, sales management, personal selling.

Applicants must document research qualifications, including a relevant PhD degree and publications adhering to the level of the applied position. Applicants should illustrate the ability to conduct impactful research on an international level within the given field of research. It is expected that you can present an interesting and visionary research agenda illustrating potential research excellence and a future impact. If relevant, applicants should have experience in designing and coordinating research projects as well as being active in attracting external funding.

High-quality teaching is important and ideally this should be reflected in teaching evaluations. Aalborg University applies a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) perspective to its education activities. Prior experience with PBL is not a prerequisite, but you will be expected to partake in pedagogical courses relating to this. Moreover, establishing relationships with the business community is of high importance in supporting the profile of the department.

The Department of Business and Management at Aalborg University conducts research in a wide array of business disciplines. The department is in the process of preparing itself for an accreditation and transformation into a business school with a strong corporate engagement profile.

Assistant Professor
A position as assistant professor is a fixed-term training position which includes an obligation to carry our research and teaching activities. To a limited extent, additional tasks may be defined by the University.

The Faculty of Social Sciences wishes to ensure that assistant professorships provide career opportunities both within and outside of the university. For that reason, assistant professorships are formed in a manner ensuring that the competencies achieved in the position qualify for a career within research as well as a career in the private and/or public sector. No later than one year before the termination of the position, you are offered an interview in order to clarify your further career.

Qualification requirements - Assistant Professor
Applicants for the post of assistant professor must hold a PhD degree or academic qualifications at PhD level. In the selection of candidates, emphasis will be placed on research potential and pedagogical qualifications as well as experience with supervision and lectures.

Associate Professor
An appointment as associate professor is a permanent appointment which included an obligation to carry our research and teaching activities. To some extent, additional tasks may be defined by the University.

Qualification requirements - Associate Professor
It is presupposed that applicants for the position as associate professor have research qualifications corresponding to the level achieved from a successful employment period as an assistant professor/researcher, or achieved otherwise. The applicants must document scientific production at an international level. Furthermore, it is presupposed that the applicants have received supervision and pedagogical upgrading and a positive written evaluation of their teaching qualifications.

Moreover it will be an advantage, but not a prerequisite, that applicants have experience with Problem Based Learning (PBL) which is Aalborg University's teaching philosophy.

The application must contain the following (valid for both positions):

  • Motivated application.
  • Current CV.
  • Complete list of publications.
  • List of publications that the applicant wishes to be considered. A maximum of 5 publications may be submitted. 
  • Co-author statements in relation to publications written with other authors must be enclosed with a declaration from each of the authors, stating the extent of the applicant's contribution to the total work. The declaration must be signed by the co-authors. Template co-author declaration, at the bottom of this page.
  • Education (copies of documentation for degrees obtained).

An expert assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not. The selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that applies to the applicant in question. When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Appointment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Higher Educatio and Science's Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Salary is in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confereration of Professional Associations (AC) o Academics in the State.
