Associate professor in Medical Ethics and PBL (2020-224-02721)

At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Health Science and Technology one or more Associate professors in medical ethics and problem-based learning, PBL are open for appointment from August 1st 2020 or soon hereafter. The position will be part of Centre for Health Science Education and Problem-based learning (CHSE-PBL).

Job description

The Department of Health Science and Technology carries out multidisciplinary research, and teaching in the area of health science and technology. The department as more than 250 employees and is responsible for more than 1700 students. More than 100 PhD students are enrolled in the doctoal school affiliated to the department. The department has laboratory facilities for Multichannel EEG and EMG analysis, electrical stimulation, prosthetics and assistive robotics, ECG-analysis, ultrasound, 3-d movement analysis, respiratory and circulatory examinations, sensory and motor functions analysis, clean room facilities, cell growth, molecular biology etc. For further information see: www.hst.aau.dk

As part of CHSE-PBL the position will contribute to the research and teaching of PBL pedagogy, theory of science and ethics related to the educational programs and the research fields at the Faculty of Medicine. The researcher will work in cross-disciplinary teams, and be committed to the vision and mission of the Centre. 

The applicant should demonstrate international research experience within one or more of the following areas:
• Clinical ethics
• Research ethics in the field of health science and technology 
• Problem-based learning in higher education (preferably with focus on health science education
• Philosophy of education

Priority is given to applicants with experience in facilitating courses and supervising projects in a PBL institution, and with experience in teaching and supervising students at health science programs. Priority is also given to applicants that can demonstrate knowledge and competences across the scope of CHSE-PBLs activities. 

It will be considered an advantage if the applicant has conducted empirical (preferably quantitative) research within the field of medical ethics, and if the candidate has experience with collaboration with external partners in the health sector.

Qualification requirements: 

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.

  • Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio.  If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
  • Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like.
  • Additional qualifications in relation to the position.
  • References/recommendations.
  • Personal data.
