2020-224-02783 Assistant Professor in Co-production and Evaluation

At the Department of Culture and Learning, Aalborg University, an assistant professor position is available as of 1st of October 2020 or soon hereafter. This is a 4-year full-time fixed-term position that includes both research and teaching activities.

Job description

For appointment as an assistant professor, the ideal candidate is expected to:

  • teach, supervise and examine students in relevant modules in bachelor's and master's degree programmes in e.g. Organizational Learning and Master in Learning Processes
  • conduct research and publish research products at a high quality level in recognised venues with a special focus on ‘co-production of public services’
  • to build a strong research CV so the candidate will be able to qualify for acting as principal investigator at for example Independent Research Found Denmark’s research project 1 or 2 within a four-year period.
  • to participate in external research networks and partnerships, and especially build international research networks in relation to co-production from an organization theoretical perspective and to engage in collaboration with these networks on for example projects and co-authoring of scientific manuscripts.
  • engage in knowledge collaboration related to the position's scientific portfolio
  • contribute in a positive and constructive manner to the overall activities and working environment of the Department of Culture and Learning and acts as a central part of strengthening the department’s international research profile within collaborative governance and New Public Governance.

Appointment as an assistant professor requires academic qualifications at the PhD level, including an approved PhD thesis.

In relation to research, the applicant is expected to document:

  • experience, competences and achievements demonstrating the ability to deliver high-quality research internationally on the subject of co-production.
  • a research plan that harmonizes with the Department of Culture & Learning’s strategy and shows the applicant's plans for developing new research products and projects.

In relation to teaching, the applicant is expected to document:

  • experience and the ability to teach and supervise projects at a university level
  • At Aalborg University our learning approach is problem-based learning (PBL). Documented experience with this learning approach is therefore considered an advantage, but is not a prerequisite.

The applicant is expected to document the ability to teach, supervise and assess both written and oral presentations in Danish. Alternatively, the ideal applicant is expected to acquire relevant linguistic competence within an agreed timeframe. The applicants’ pedagogical qualifications as well as experience with supervision and lectures at a university level also needs to be documented. In the selection of candidates, emphasis will be placed on research potential.

The position is primarily affiliated with the research group Research Group for Capacity Building and Evaluation’ (CABE) that has a range of research interests within the following main areas:

    • Evaluation
    • Capacity Building
    • Organizational learning
    • Co-production
    • Creativity and innovation processes

In terms of personal qualities, the applicant is expected to have solid cooperative abilities as well as the ability to create and maintain productive relationships with researchers of various research and cultural backgrounds. A national as well as an international network is thus an advantage.

Daily attendance in the department is required. In addition, applicants must be prepared to actively participate in all aspects of the day-to-day activities of the department and study programmes. Assistant professorship
A position as assistant professor is a fixed-term training position which includes an obligation to carry out research and teaching activities. To a limited extent, additional tasks may be defined by the University. The appointment includes a requirement to attend a course in university pedagogy for assistant professors organised by the University.

The employment as assistant professor must not exceed a total period of four years at the same institution (a maximum of six years at assistant professor level at AAU and a maximum of eight years at assistant professor level in Denmark).

  • A complete publication list and markings of the attached publications to be taken into consideration in connection with the assessment. No more than five publications may be attached.
  • In case you attach joint, a co-author statement must be enclosed specifying your contribution to the joint work. The co-author statement must be signed by at least one of the co-authors. Template co-author declaration

  • Copies of your degree certificates (including Master’s and PhD certificates) 

Applicants will be assessed by an expert assessment committee. Applicants may be invited to an interview and/or asked to give a trial lecture.

This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not. The selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that applies to the applicant in question. When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.
