Assistant Professor in Engineering Psychology

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, a position as Assistant Professor in Engineering Psychology is open for appointment from September 1, 2020, or soon hereafter. The position is available for a period of 3 years. In the area of electronics engineering, Aalborg University is known worldwide for its high academic quality and the societal relevance of its research programmes. The Department of Electronic Systems employs more than 200 staff, of which about 40% are international, and about 90 enrolled PhD students. The Department hosts 620 students. The Department's excellent research infrastructures and facilities accentuate its global position in teaching and research. Department research centres around communication, antennas, control systems, signal processing, cybersecurity and acoustics. The Department plays an active role in translating discoveries and results into practical applications with industrial partners and IPR. Within its own subject field, the Department provides teaching for several BSc and MSc programmes using a problem- and project-based learning model.

Job description

The position is with the Signal and Information Processing (SIP) section that conducts research in three major categories; Acoustics; Signal Processing and Machine Learning; and User Research. SIP has at its disposal a range of world class research facilities and equipment that allow controlled environments for experiments with human subjects.

The position will involve teaching within the BSc. and MSc. programmes in Engineering Psychology, as well as research within multi-disciplinary research fields of human perception and cognition, and user experience pertaining to the design and development of technology for human users. The aim of the position is to strengthen the research-based curriculum of the education and complement the research profile of the department.

The selected candidate should have a MSc. or Ph.D. within engineering psychology or equivalent. Experience and documented research at a PhD. level within two or more of the following research areas:

  1. Engineering psychology, human perception and cognition.
  2. Interaction and user experience design, usability, or human factors engineering.
  3. Advanced psychophysiological and perception-psychological methods, such as eye-tracking and pupillometry, galvanic skin response, EEG, heart rate variability, verbal protocols, both for laboratory and ambulatory research.
  4. Advanced data analysis and modelling methods relevant for perceptual evaluation and psychometrics, such as multi-dimensional scaling, principal component and factor analysis, Bayesian networks, parametric choice models.
  5. User centered design and development methods related to technological systems, such as software and hardware applications, consumer electronics, industrial systems and processes or similar.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

An assessment committee will assess all candidates.
