One or more Assistant Professors in Building Physics (2020-224-02833)

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of the Built Environment (BUILD) at Aalborg University’s campus in Copenhagen one or more positions as assistant professor in building physics with focus on interaction between moisture and buildings are open for appointment from September 1st, 2020 or soon hereafter for a periode of four years.

Job description

Climate change is one of the main challenges in building sector today. We need to meet the demand for increasing energy efficiency of buildings in both a sustainable and a durable way. In the same time, we also need to predict the impact of the future climate on the buildings and how to ensure the long term sustainability and durability. Moisture plays a major role in this aspect, as exceeded moisture levels give risk of mould growth and reduces the service life of the constructions. The aging building stock calls therefore for robust refurbishment solutions and how these should be designed in a moisture safe way. Furthermore, there is an increasing focus on sustainable and “green” solutions, including recycled and upgraded materials and products, where long term experience is missing. More research is therefore needed to understand the complex interaction between both exterior and indoor environment and building materials, constructions and buildings.

To meet this increasing need for research, together with the need for teaching and dissemination within the field of building physics and building technology, BUILD is looking for one or more assistant professor with specific focus on interaction between moisture and buildings.

The positions are open in Research Group for Building Physics and Construction in the Division of Building Technology and Management and includes research, teaching, dissemination as well as government consultancy and business cooperation in the field of building physics. The applicant will also contribute to research proposals for national and international funding, and to the teaching and supervision activities in the research group, particularly at the Master of Building Physics.

BUILD has a wide network both nationally and internationally, and research is often conducted in collaboration with companies, organizations and authorities.

A position at BUILD offers significant opportunities to influence the built environment, through government consultancy, SBi Guidelines, business collaboration, teaching and research dissemination. You will become part of a dynamic research environment, where the focus is on knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaboration on technical and social science assignments. In addition, the position will give great possibilities for development of strong professional profile in academic and applied research.
