Postdoc within Genetics of Microbiota and Aging in c.elegans

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, a position as Postdoc within genetics of microbiota and aging in C. elegans is open for appointment from 01.08.2020 – 31.03.2023 or soon hereafter. The position is part-time (30 hours per week). The Department of Chemistry and Bioscience consists of five sections of which three are situated in Aalborg with research and teaching in Biotechnology, Applied Chemistry and Biology & Environmental Science, one in Copenhagen on Sustainable Biotechnology and one in Esbjerg on Chemical Engineering. The position is located within the Section of Biotechnology in the group for Medical Biotechnology with working place in Aalborg.

Job description

The C. elegans Group is offering the postdoc position funded by a Lundbeck Foundation Experiment grant. A new understanding of the microbiota as a master regulator of health and disease is currently revolutionizing biological and medical sciences. A wealth of unexpected links between the gut microbiota and health is currently being discovered (i.e. obesity, diabetes, allergy, cancer, immunity, mental health and even aging), but causal links remain speculative. Insight into what shapes the microbiota and how it affects the host is essential to unlock the tremendous potential understanding and even preventing a range of human and animal diseases. Using C. elegans we wish to uncover the molecular mechanisms involved in shaping the microbiota.

We are looking for a scientist with the following qualifications:

  • Proven record within molecular biology
  • Strong competences within C. elegans genetics and transgenics
  • Experience with microbiome research
  • Experience with CRISPR/CAS9.
  • Experience in teaching and supervision of students.
