Job description

The postdoc will be part of the physics group and the research is focused on development and materials characterization of PVD-fabricated thin film metal coatings using SEM, EDS, XRD, AFM, surface tribology and wear testing as well as other techniques. The goal of the research project is to develop new hard metal-based coatings used for wear and corrosion protection and to understand the detailed properties. We will investigate and correlate macroscopic parameters (e.g., wear, hardness) with the micro- and nanoscale properties of the films (e.g. film crystallinity, morphology) to provide a complete understanding of the coating synchronous with the development. Most of the fabrication and development of the coatings will be done at and by a Danish company, the materials characterization will be done at Aalborg University and further testing will be done in collaboration with international industrial partners.

The candidate must have a strong background in experimental physics, materials engineering or equivalent. Good technical skills and experience with some of the techniques involved is required.

Limited teaching within the area or other study programmes at the University can be expected.

You may obtain further professional information from associate professor Lars Diekhöner, +45 99409217, ld@mp.aau.dk . Please feel free to ask for further information concerning the scientific aspects of the position.
