At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology, one or more positions as Assistant Professor in Architectural Design is open for appointment from November 1st, 2020 or soon hereafter and for a period of three years. The Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology's goal is the development of an innovative cluster of engineering-based environments for education and research which integrate creativity, engineering and technology within the disciplines of architecture, urban design, industrial design, digital design and interactive media. The department is a leading research and educational environment in Denmark that addresses the challenge of the interplay between creativity and technology, and develops new areas in research and education directed towards the end-user.

Job description

The Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology has a number of vacant positions as Assistant Professor in Architectural Design with a specific focus on the areas of technology, fabrication and structural systems.

The position as Assistant Professor is a 3-year position affiliated to the Tectonics in Architecture research group. The group focus on complex multidisciplinary questions and projects, researching synergetic relations between architecture and engineering through a tectonics approach.

The positions are placed at the intersections between architectural design, structural design, advanced technology driven fabrication and human design agency spanning from design thinking to technological integrative design methods. Moreover, the positions are inherently based on trans-disciplinary theoretical and applied fields, therefore, you have a background within either architecture or engineering.

The key themes are tectonics oriented computational design, material studies and structural design processes. It is clearly an advantage if you have a strong design profile, as the work is oriented towards the design fields, but with a clear focus on engineering and technological dimensions.

You must show academic commitment to both basic and applied research. Furthermore, the ability to work across media, from strong visual and textual documentation to computational design programming and fabrication methods will be emphasized. The position will require dissemination of research results by a range of communicative channels. An interest in research of societal relevance of architecture is important, as well as an interest to explore inter-disciplinary collaboration.

The positions include teaching obligations at both undergraduate and master's level, including supervising master thesis students as well as other related work at the department and educational programs.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

The application must contain the following:

  • A statement outlining your reasons for applying, and intentions and visions with, the position.
  • Your curriculum vitae, including personal data, educational background, scientific qualifications, dissemination skills, participation in committees and boards, and additional qualifications relevant for the position.
