At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Energy Technology, a position as Associate Professor in Fuel Cell Systems is open for appointment from October 2020 or soon hereafter. The Department of Energy Technology is an expanding department covering most fields of Energy Technology ranging from electrical energy (Power Systems, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines) to thermal energy including Energy Systems and Fluid Mechanics and Combustion but also mechatronic systems. The department consists of about 280 employees with more than 120 Ph.D. students. The laboratory-facilities are world-class and the research carried out are most often in collaboration with industry. The position is offered in relation to the research program "Fuel Cell Systems" and the Associate Professor will be positioned in the section of Thermal Energy Systems.

Job description

The research areas will be within the focus areas of the fuel cell systems research program. The main research topics will be experimental investigations and performance and durability of fuel cells, electrolyzers and reformers using various characterization methods. You must have a suitable background in PEM fuel cells, preferably both low temperature and high temperature (based on PBI or similar materials), PEM electrolyzers and methanol reforming. Documented experience at high international level is required with expert knowledge in experimental methods and apparatus applied to fuel cells and electrolyzers.
The research program has a strong focus on the combination of experimental and modeling work. Therefore, knowledge related to modeling at cell, stack and system levels of fuel cell systems and experimental work with these is a requirement. Experience in fault detection, isolation and on-line diagnostics for state-of-health monitoring is an advantage.
You are expected to take a central role in the management of the research program and the position will include external collaboration through research projects including project management and application for funding of new projects. Moreover, you will provide supervision of PhD students and postdocs affiliated with the research program. Therefore, documented experiences in research group management, supervisions, project management and international collaborations should be provided.

Teaching will primarily be in the study program in energy technology, but also in other study programs at the University. A detailed teaching portfolio documenting experience with teaching and pedagogical training should be included in the application.
