2020-224-03059 Postdoc in Modular Multilevel Power Electronic Systems

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Energy Technology, a position as postdoc in Modular Multilevel Power Electronic Systems is open for appointment from January 1, 2021 or soon thereafter. The position is available for a period of 2 years. The position is offered in relation to the research program "Electronic Power Grid" and the Postdoc will be positioned to the section for Power Electronics Systems. The Department of Energy Technology is an expanding department covering most fields of Energy Technology ranging from electrical energy (Power Systems, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines to thermal energy including Energy Systems and Fluid Mechanics and Combustion but also mechatronic systems. The department consists of about 280 employees with more than 120 Ph.D. students.The laboratory-facilities are world-class and the research carried out are most often in collaboration with industry.

Job description

The research areas will be within medium-voltage, high-power electronic systems with focus on control, hardware development and testing of modular multilevel power converters. The developed power electronic system is expected to have high scalability, reliability and stability under various extreme loading conditions. 

You should be highly motivated with the background in both control and hardware development of medium-voltage, high power electronic systems. Preferred work experiences include (but is not limited to) the following: 

1) Hardware design and testing of modular multilevel converters
2) Control development with FPGA/DSP for power electronic systems 
3) Weak-grid control of power electronic converters in renewable energy systems 
4) Grid-code testing and validation for renewable energy systems 

A high proficiency in oral and written English is required. Preferably you have an academic degree (Ph. D. degree) in power electronics.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
