Postdoc in Fabrication of Thermocatalytic Membranes (2020-224-03067)

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience a position as Postdoc in fabrication of thermocatalytic is open for appointment in the period 1. November 2020 - 31. December 2021 or soon hereafter. The Department of Chemistry and Bioscience consists of five sections of which three are situated in Aalborg with research and teaching in Biotechnology, Applied Chemistry and Biology & Environmental Science, one in Copenhagen on Sustainable Biotechnology and one in Esbjerg on Chemical Engineering. The position is located within the section of Chemistry with working place in Aalborg.

Job description

The postdoc position is part of the project “Non-biological wastewater treatment with thermocatalytic membrane for simultaneous filtration and pollutant degradation” funded by the Villum Foundation and will be carried out at Center for Membrane Technology at Aalborg University. The aim of the project is to develop a thermocatalytic membrane by coating a ceramic membrane with a newly developed thermocatalyst. After successful membrane functionalization, the thermocatalytic properties should be determined to describe how fouling layers can be degraded and how micropollutants can be removed by the membrane. Therefore, we seek a postdoc with a relevant PhD-degree in Chemical Engineering or related fields.

The candidate will carry out research focusing on synthesis of thermocatalytic perovskites, membrane synthesis and membrane filtration and degradation studies. This will be done in collaboration with external institutions, e.g. Chalmers University of Technology and CNR – ISMN (Italy). The position will also include some teaching, primarily supervision of 5th and 7th semester students as well as thesis students supervision.

The candidate should document knowledge in the field of inorganic synthesis, materials science and characterization, ceramic membranes and membrane filtration. The candidate should also have experience with sol-gel synthesis and catalytic degradation of organic pollutants. It will also be an advantage if the applicant has experience applying for external funding.

The applicant must have good interpersonal and communication skills, as the project is carried out in a close collaboration with different stakeholders.

You may obtain further professional information from Assistant Professor Mads Koustrup Jørgensen mkj@bio.aau.dk, phone: +45 4082 8310.
