Assistant Professor in Computational Mechanics

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Energy Technology a position as Assistant Professor in Computational Mechanics is open for appointment in the period 01.12.20 or soon hereafter and for 3 years. The Department of Energy Technology is an expanding department covering most fields of Energy Technology ranging from electrical energy (Power Systems, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines) to thermal energy including Energy Systems and Fluid Mechanics and Combustion but also Mechatronic Systems. The department has about 285 employees – out of them are more than 115 Ph.D. students. The laboratory-facilities are world-class and the research carried out are most often in collaboration with industry. The position is offered in relation to the research program Offshore Energy Systems and the assistant professor will be positioned in the Esbjerg section.

Job description

Research areas will be within mathematical modelling and numerical analysis of computational methods for fluid-structure interaction problems, which e.g. could support the development and analysis of renewable energy systems. The candidate must have a strong background in structural mechanics, fluid mechanics and numerical analysis. You are expected to have implemented numerical methods suitable for structural mechanics and fluid dynamics, as current in-house models should be further developed. Furthermore, the applicant is expected to have published work within the field of fluid-structure interaction problems, e.g. for floating offshore structures.

Teaching will primarily be related to structural mechanics and hydrodynamics, but in other study programmes at the University.

Qualification requirements
Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Your curriculum vitae, including personal data, educational background, scientific qualifications, dissemination skills, participation in committees and boards, and additional qualifications relevant for the position.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • A complete list of publications.
  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

An assessment committee will assess all candidates.
