Assistant Professor in Energy Planning

At Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Planning, one or more positions as Assistant Professor in Energy Planning are open for appointment from 15 July 2021 or soon hereafter. The positions are available for a period of 3 years. At least one position is to be filled in Aalborg and one or more in Copenhagen. At Department of Planning, we have about 200 employees situated at the Aalborg and Copenhagen campuses. The department provides high-quality research and teaching in the field of planning, technology and society in order to create a more sustainable future. We are interdisciplinary in the technical, natural and social science disciplines and present a unique combination of social and technological understanding where digital and technological solutions merge with the needs of society. Our research creates the foundation for educating the future workforce, and as part of Aalborg University, the department rests on a socially engaging and problem-oriented approach. It is also at Department of Planning that the UNESCO Center for Problem-Based Learning is at home. That helps ensure, we create educations aimed at the job market and a society with increasing focus on technology, digitization, sustainability and partnerships for a sustainable transition.

Job description

Research areas will be within Strategic Energy Planning with a focus on Energy Systems Analysis, feasibility studies, public regulation and institutional economics of Renewable Smart Energy Systems. Special attention is given to the broader cross-sectoral approach. The applicants should demonstrate experience within one or more of the following three areas:

  • Energy Systems Modelling of smart energy systems e.g. using the EnergyPLAN advanced energy systems analyses tool and other tools for local, national and international systems;
  • Strategic energy planning in cities and communities within smart energy systems;
  • Public participation and public regulation, including concrete institutional economics applied to smart energy systems;

Teaching will be within the Master of Science in Sustainable Energy Planning and Management and the Master of Science in Sustainable Cities on the topics of sustainable urban planning, strategic energy planning and public participation and regulation. Teaching within these topics, as well as concrete institutional economics, will also be required at the Danish Bachelor of Science programme in Urban, Environmental and Energy Planning. Teaching in other studies programmes at the University may occur.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Clear indication of which campus (Aalborg or Copenhagen) you wish to be located at. 
  • A statement outlining your reasons for applying, and intentions and visions with, the position.
  • Your curriculum vitae, including personal data, educational background, scientific qualifications, dissemination skills, participation in committees and boards, and additional qualifications relevant for the position.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • A complete list of publications.
  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

An assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Agreement

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
