Associate professor in Political science

The Department of Politics & Society at The Faculty of Social Sciences – Aalborg University, invites applications for a position as fulltime associate professor in political science. For this position we welcome in particular applications from candidates with a background in European studies. Candidates with alternative profiles are also encouraged to apply. The associate professorship is a permanent position and open for appointment from April 1 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description

Research at the Department of Politics & Society is organized in four clusters and further divided in research groups. The successful applicant for this vacancy and is expected to contribute significantly to research and teaching within the International Relations cluster covering such topics as European studies, international relations, and migration studies and will initially be associated with the Aalborg Center for European Studies. Associate professors are expected to contribute to developing grant applications, disseminate research in relevant high quality academic outlets as well as to the public. 

Qualification requirements
Applicants must demonstrate research qualifications and teaching skills equivalent to those achieved after a successful period of employment as assistant professor or post doctoral researcher. The successful applicant have produced a significant body of independent peer-reviewed international publications, and must demonstrate progression beyond academic work related to the PhD dissertation. Employment as associate professor presupposes a positive assessment of documented teaching qualifications. The dominating philosophy of teaching at Aalborg University is Problem Based Learning (PBL).

  • List of publications that the applicant wishes to be considered. A maximum of 10 publications may be submitted.
  • Co-author statements in relation to publications written with other authors must be enclosed with a declaration from each of the authors, stating the extent of the applicant's contribution to the total work. The declaration must be signed by the co-authors. Template co-author declaration

Assessment
An expert assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not. The selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that applies to the applicant in question. When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Agreement

Appointment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science's Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Salary is in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State.
