Assistant Professor in Wireless Connectivity

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, a position as Assistant Professor in Wireless Connectivity is open for appointment from June 1, 2021 or soon thereafter. The position is available for a period of four years. In electronics engineering, Aalborg University is known worldwide for its high academic quality and the societal relevance of its research programmes. The Department of Electronic Systems employs more than 200 staff, of which about 40% are international, and about 90 enrolled PhD students. The Department hosts 620 students. The Department's excellent research infrastructures and facilities accentuate its global position in teaching and research. Department research centres around communication, antennas, control systems, signal processing, cybersecurity and acoustics. The Department plays an active role in translating discoveries and results into practical applications with industrial partners and IPR. The Department provides teaching for several BSc and MSc programmes within its subject area using a problem- and project-based learning model.

Job description

We are looking for an Assistant Professor in Wireless Connectivity to join our team. You will join a team of academics with a comprehensive research and teaching portfolio in the areas of communications, electronics and computer engineering.

The position requires internationally recognized research experience in at least one of the following areas:

  • Internet of Things (IoT) and/or massive machine-type communications
  • Wireless access protocols
  • Mathematical modelling of communication systems
  • Design and performance analysis of wireless communication systems and protocols
  • Ultra-reliable low-latency communications
  • Relevant technologies and techniques for 5G and beyond 5G communications such as satellite communications, wireless mesh networks, machine learning, and Blockchain.

The main tasks and responsibilities include:

  • We expect that you can  demonstrate international experience by means of publications in reputed conferences and journals and international collaborations. Experience in preparing national and European project applications is highly desirable.
  • Research, including publication of results and supervision of research students.
  • Teaching in computer engineering and communications on Bachelor and Master levels.
  • Acquiring research funding and coordinating funded projects.
  • Strengthening of our relationship with private industry partners within the field.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Your curriculum vitae, including personal data, educational background, scientific qualifications, dissemination skills, participation in committees and boards, and additional qualifications relevant for the position.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • A complete list of publications.
  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

An assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Agreement

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics. The first 3 months of your employment is a trial period.
