One or more Assistant Professor in Geoinformatics - (with the possibility of tenure track)

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Planning, Copenhagen, one or more positions as Assistant Professor in Geoinformatics is open for appointment from August 2021 or soon hereafter. For the right candidate there will be a possibility of Tenure-track. The research at the Department of Planning reaches from the social science aspects of development (technological, environmental, international and administrative aspects) to physical planning, sector planning, land management, and to technical subjects such as surveying and mapping. At Department of Planning, we have about 200 employees situated at the Aalborg and Copenhagen campus. The department provides high-quality research and teaching in the field of planning, technology and society in order to create a more sustainable future. We are interdisciplinary in the technical, natural and social science disciplines and present a unique combination of social and technological understanding where digital and technological solutions merge with the needs of society. Our research creates the foundation for educating the future workforce, and as part of Aalborg University, the department rests on a socially engaging and problem-oriented approach. It is also at Department of Planning that the UNESCO Center for Problem-Based Learning is at home. That helps ensure, we create educations aimed at the job market and a society with increasing focus on technology, digitization, sustainability and partnerships for a sustainable transition

Job description

The position is located in the Geoinformatics research group, which covers a broad range of topics where geographic information plays a key role, including Spatial Data Infrastructure, Geospatial analysis and modelling, Geospatial enabled technologies and thinking. The research is interdisciplinary and often associated with other topics at the Department of Planning. Currently, the Geoinformatics research group is involved in EU funded projects on maritime spatial planning, climate change, and demography. Teaching will primarily be specific aspects of Geoinformatics – including geospatial information technology, geostatistics, geospatial modelling and geovisualisation. You will mainly be teaching in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programme for the Danish chartered surveyors, but also in other study programmes at the University.

The position is initially for 3 years, during which it is expected that the successful applicant will follow the pedagogical education towards the qualification for associate professor (“adjunktpædagogikum”). Moreover, it is expected that the successful applicant will contribute to the department’s research and publish at international level. Upon successful completion of the adjunktpædagogikum and overall positive evaluation, the successful applicant can be hired as associate professor after the initial three years, pending budgetary approval.

TENURE-TRACK
Department of Planning at Aalborg University offer highly qualified candidates an attractive career path via tenure-track. Tenure-track assistant professors are appointed for a period of six years with the prospect of performance-based promotion to a tenured position as Associate Professor. Tenure-track assistant professors are expected to have international academic standing, demonstrating acclaimed competitive research, and/or have a recognized high potential for future impact.

If appointed on tenure-track, an internal assessment committee will conduct a mid-term evaluation after 3 years, and an external assessment committee will conduct a final review after 5.5 years. If the final review is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as Associate Professor.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Your curriculum vitae, including personal data, educational background, scientific qualifications, dissemination skills, participation in committees and boards, and additional qualifications relevant for the position.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • A complete list of publications.
  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

An assessment committee will assess all candidates.

Agreement

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
