Associate Professor in Bioengineering (2021-224-03858)

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, a position as Associate Professor in Bioengineering with focus on fermentation based bioprocessing is open for appointment from 1 August 2022, or soon hereafter. The Department consists of two sections, Chemical Science and Engineering and Bioscience and Engineering, with staff and facilities present at both campus Aalborg and campus Esbjerg. Place of employment of the position is Section of Bioscience and Engineering in Esbjerg. Job description

The Department of Chemistry and Bioscience is seeking a dynamic, problem-solving Associate Professor to join a team of scientists and experts in applied molecular and process-focused Bioengineering research. The successful applicant shall in collaboration with colleagues in the section participate in development of research in bioengineering with particular focus on upstream processes and fermentation technology, participate in applying for external funding within the research area and participate in teaching of applied biotechnology and bioengineering skills and competences for chemical and biotechnological engineering students.

Teaching will be at both bachelor and master level in the Bachelor Programme in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology and the Master Programme in Bioengineering, but potentially also in other study programs of the university. Teaching will comprise both course teaching and student project supervision.

The successful applicant must have experience with upstream fermentation based bioprocess engineering, industrial project collaborations and insights into modern biotechnological production. The applicant needs a demonstrated record of publishing peer-reviewed research and demonstrated experience in attraction of research funding and student mentoring and teaching as to be expected for the employment level of associate professor. Industrial experience obtained through a research and development position within a company may also qualify for the position if assessed to be equivalent to associate professor level. Experience with problem and project based learning is desired.

Additionally, evidence of excellent communication skills, both written and oral, documentation for ability to work in interdisciplinary teams to conduct transdisciplinary research and outreach activities, demonstrated leadership ability in outreach and/or research and demonstrated knowledge of the application of research techniques applied to the area described above is desired.

Qualification requirements: 

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.
