Postdoc in computer vision-based fine-grained analysis

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology a position as Postdoc in in computer vision-based fine-grained analysis is open for appointment from August 1st, 2022 or soon hereafter and for a period of three years. The Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology has as its goal the development of an innovative cluster of engineering-based environments for education and research which integrate creativity, engineering and technology within the disciplines of architecture, urban design, industrial design, digital design and interactive media. The department is a leading research and educational environment in Denmark that addresses the challenge of the interplay between creativity and technology, and develops new areas in research and education directed towards the end-user.

Job description

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc researcher in the area of computer vision. The focus of the position will be on basic research on fine-grained analysis in real-life open-ended problems, e.g., environmental monitoring, biodiversity, medical diagnostics, etc.  The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in Computer Vision with a background in both basic and applied research. Demonstrating an understanding of domain knowledge and incorporating computer vision into multiple applied domains are judge positively.

The position is offered at the Visual Analysis and Perception Lab at Aalborg University and associated to the Danish Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence. The postdoc is expected to have close collaborations with other researchers in the center. Moreover, the postdoc is expected to share his/her time between the centre headquarter at Copenhagen University and the Visual Analysis and Perception Lab at Aalborg University.

The Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence is a multi-university research centre led by Professor Serge Belongie. Interdisciplinary and at the forefront of fundamental AI research, the centre focuses on fundamental AI research, and within an interdisciplinary framework, develops platforms, methods, and practices addressing society’s greatest challenges. The research is organized into 7 Collaboratories, each with several members and led by top researchers in their fields. Researchers at the Pioneer Centre for AI will have extraordinary access to computing resources, international researchers across many disciplines within computer sciences and other academic areas, as well as courses and events at the centre, and meaningful collaboration with industry, the public sector, and the start-up ecosystem.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
