Postdoc in genomics of complex disease with focus on endometriosis (2022-224-04738)

At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Department of Health Science and Technology a position as Postdoc in genomics and biomarkers of endometriosis is open for appointment from September 1st, 2022, or soon hereafter. The position is available until August 31st, 2025.

Job description

Department of Health Science and Technology carries out multidisciplinary research, teaching and dissemination within biomedical engineering, sports science and medicine. The department has more than 250 employees and is responsible for more than 1700 students. The researchers are organized in a number of research groups and centres, and the department has at its disposal laboratory and clean room facilities for cell growth, molecular biology, brain analysis, 3D movement analysis, respiratory and circulatory examinations, sensory and motor functions analysis, etc. All study programs at Aalborg University involve problem-based learning, organized around cases and projects. You will be part of a research group that works primarily with human genetics and genomics within women’s health using a combination of wet-laboratory omics-technologies and statistical genetics. Our aim is to improve mechanistic understanding and prediction of common complex diseases. We also run courses and project supervision within complex disease genetics. The primary focus of the prospective postdoc will be within the interplay between germline and somatic genetics in endometriosis.

The candidate must have a relevant PhD within human genetics and complex disease genetics and have exquisite organizing skills and project management abilities. 

The candidate must have documented experience within the following areas: 

  • Endometriosis genetics
  • Analysis of next-generation sequencing data
  • Experience in calling of somatic mutations
  • Polygenic risk scores prediction
  • Organizing and running a biobank
  • Initiation and managing of research projects, including study design, obtaining ethical approvals and data handler agreements.
  • Abilities to run projects using Danish register data
  • Experience with working in R and linux environment
  • Teaching competences within human genetics


The candidate should furthermore be able to integrate and work together with the rest of the team and should have good written and oral communication.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
