One or more Postdocs in 6G Radio Resource Management Research (2022-224-04741)

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, one or more positions as postdoc in 6G Radio Resource Management Research are open for appointment from October 1, 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter. The positions are available for 24 months. The Department of Electronic Systems consists of more than 200 employees, of which about 40 % are international and about 90 are enrolled PhD students. The Department hosts 620 students. The Department's excellent research infrastructures and facilities accentuate its global position in teaching and research. The Department's research centres around communication, antennas, control systems, AI, sound, cybersecurity and robotics. The Department plays an active role in translating discoveries and results into practical applications with industrial partners and IPR. The Department provides teaching for several BSc and MSc programmes using a problem- and project-based learning model.

Job description

As PostDoc in 6G Radio Resource Management (RRM) Research you will collaborate closely with researchers at Aalborg University as well as Nokia Bell Labs Research, also located in Aalborg. Besides conducting own research for publications and potential patenting, the job may include supervision of students, including PhD candidates, working within same field of research.

6G comes with a new toolbox of radio technologies, including an air interface based on Machine Learning, Distributed (Massive) MIMO deployments, and new spectrum access and duplexing methods and co-existence capabilities. Holistic radio protocols are required to leverage the advantages of such technologies while fitting to 6G radio access network deployments and demanding application requirements, from critical control type applications to full meta-verse access. Especially, required enhancements for uplink for such applications are expected to impact significantly future radio protocol designs.

The research area includes but may not be limited to following topics

  • Optimal radio resource allocation strategies to unleash benefits of new 6G concepts incl. design for extended uplink performance, L1/L2 cell selection, cell-less networks, AI based air interface, etc.
  • Propose new radio resource management (RRM) techniques, including enhancements based on machine learning capabilities, encompassing resource/user abstraction and consideration of advanced applications and advanced QoS/QoE semantic awareness
  • Verify and demonstrate by realistic system simulations the performance potential and benefits of proposed RRM concepts versus different radio deployment scenarios and application requirements

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
