Assistant Professor in Techno-Anthropology

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, The Department of Planning at Aalborg University’s Aalborg Campus is looking for one or more candidates for a position as full-time Assistant Professor in Techno-Anthropology based at the university’s campus in Aalborg. The position(s) are open for appointment from December 1st 2022 or soon hereafter. The position(s) will be terminated after three years. At Department of Planning, we have about 200 employees situated at the Aalborg and Copenhagen campuses. The department provides high-quality research and teaching in the field of planning, technology and society in order to create a more sustainable future. We are interdisciplinary in the technical, natural and social science disciplines and present a unique combination of social and technological understanding where digital and technological solutions merge with the needs of society. Our research creates the foundation for educating the future workforce, and as part of Aalborg University, the department rests on a socially engaging and problem-oriented approach. Job description

The Associate professor will be integrated in the research group for ‘Techno-Anthropology and Participation’ at the Department of Planning ( This research group conducts socio-technical research and applicants for the position are expected to contribute    to research on Socio-technical intervention and Human-Technology relations.

The position shall strengthen research activities within sustainable and contextual sensitive interaction with eHealth in the entire information technological life cycle including design, development, implementation evaluation and maintenance, with a specific focus on one or more of the following issues:

  • Patient participation in prevention as well as active care and the use of patient reported outcome.
  • End user participation.
  • Outcome assessment, policy making and planning of health care.

Teaching and supervision obligation will be in development, application, and assessment of information technology in health care in the bachelor’s and master’s programs in techno anthropology.

Your competences:

Applicants must document research experience at PhD-level and have cross disciplinary co-operation experience. It is an advantage to have been involved in original scientific production at an international level.

Emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s ability to provide pedagogical guidance as well as supervision. Furthermore, emphasis will be placed on a comprehensive experience with the PBL framework used in education on Masters and PhD level programs.

An affiliation with international networks within health informatics will be considered preferable as well.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Your curriculum vitae, including personal data, educational background, scientific qualifications, dissemination skills, participation in committees and boards, and additional qualifications relevant for the position.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • A complete list of publications.
  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

Shortlisting will be applied. After the review of any objections regarding the assessment committee, the head of department, with assistance from the chair of the assessment committee, selects the candidates to be assessed.
