At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Medicine, a position as an assistant professor in Health Economics is open for appointment as of October 2022 or soon here after. The position is a 4-year full-time fixed-term position.

Job description

The vacant position is with the research group Danish Center for Healthcare Improvements (DCHI), which is an application-oriented, interdisciplinary research group. The overall aim of DCHI is to improve the cost-effectiveness of initiatives within the healthcare sector by providing decision-makers with qualified and research-based input for decision-making.

The successful candidate must actively contribute to strengthening DCHI’s profile within health economics and market access. Take part in the research activities of DCHI such as formulating, developing, implementing, and managing research projects and contributing to attracting external funding etc.

Additionally, the successful candidate must demonstrate to have comprehensive knowledge of health economics, economic evaluation, effect measures, and in-depth knowledge of the Danish healthcare system. Candidates with expertise in market access, marketing, pricing, and reimbursement are favoredSignificant importance is attached to the applicant having experience in teaching.

The appointment includes an obligation to take part in the teaching of relevant courses within health economics and market access including supervision and examination. Additionally, an interest in planning and coordination of Master programmes is beneficial. The courses are on both a basic and an advanced level at the Master programme of Medicine with Industrial Specialization, Medical Market Access, and the Master programme of Public Health at Aalborg University. As some of the teaching is in English the applicant must document the ability to teach, supervise, and assess both written and oral presentations in English.

The appointment includes a requirement to attend a course in university pedagogy for Assistant Professors organized by the University.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

The application must contain the following: 

  • A statement outlining your reasons for applying, and intentions and visions with, the position.
  • Your curriculum vitae, including personal data, educational background, scientific qualifications, dissemination skills, participation in committees and boards, and additional qualifications relevant for the position.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • A complete list of publications.
  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

Shortlisting will be applied. After the review of any objections regarding the assessment committee, the head of department, with assistance from the chair of the assessment committee, selects the candidates to be assessed. All applicants will be informed as to whether they will advance to assessment or not.

Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
