Job description

For this position, we welcome applications from candidates with a background in architecture or civil engineering with focus on structural and sustainable design.

The position is at the intersection between architecture, structural engineering, computation design, and technology-driven fabrication, i.e., all concurrent fields involved in designing low carbon and resilient structures. The key themes are tectonic relations between structures, architecture, and the built environment across scale and time, herein the development of novel viable and sustainable construction principles, material technologies, and computational design processes. Moreover, the position is inherently based on transdisciplinary theoretical and applied fields. The aim is that the position actively contributes to our research in integrated design and development of our curriculum. Hence, whereas the vacancy has its impetus in structure and construction at an architectural scale, we expect you to be interested in expanding your interest to address environmental and infrastructural challenges across scale.

You may have a background in either architecture or engineering and experience with research in integrated design environments. The position is oriented towards the design fields, but with a clear focus on engineering and technological dimensions. With a background in engineering, we expect you will pursue insight into architectural design principles and vice versa. With a stronger architectural experience, your plan will be oriented towards insight into engineering principles. In sum, the position requires versatility in integrating architectural, structural, and sustainable design. It also involves expanding its cross-field scope further towards advanced, novel, and integrated principles that articulate different knowledge domains within building design workflows.

The position includes teaching obligations at both, undergraduate and master's level, e.g., supervising master thesis students. The philosophy of teaching in Architecture at Aalborg University is integrated architectural design based on Problem Based Learning. The appointment includes a requirement to attend a course in university pedagogy for assistant professors organised by the University. To a limited extend you may be involved in development of the educational programmes and to administrative tasks on department level.

You may obtain further professional information from Head of Section, Lea Holst Laursen, by mail or tel. +45 9940 7174.
