At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU  Energy, a position as Associate Professor in Wind Power System and Power Electronic-dominated Power System for four years is open for appointment from 1st of April 2023 or soon hereafter.

Job description

AAU Energy is a dynamic engineering research department in continuous growth and inspiring surroundings. AAU Energy has a very international environment and covers all areas of clean and sustainable energy systems of the future within electrical, thermal and mechatronic energy technology. AAU Energy has campuses in both Aalborg and Esbjerg, this position is located in Aalborg.
The mission is to be world leading in both research and research-based education of the energy engineers of the future. AAU  Energy  has  approx. 300  employees  of  many  nationalities,  of  which  25  are  administrative staff. In addition, AAU Energy constantly has approx. 50-70 guest researchers from around the world.

Research and teaching are in the absolute world elite in the field of energy, and we have extensive and leading workshop and laboratory facilities, where research and innovation are carried out in direct collaboration with industry to a great extent. The position is offered in relation to the research program "Wind Power System" and the Associate Professor will be positioned to the section for “Electric Power System and Microgrids”.

Research areas will be within wind power system and power electronic-dominated power system. The position will be aligned to perform intensive cooperation in above research fields with international partners. Hence, the research experience in international projects is highly preferred.

Teaching will primarily be in wind power system, power electronic-dominated power system, power system stability, and power converter design and control, but also in other study programmes at the University.

A successful application prerequisite is demonstrated as follows.
Background of wind power system, power electronics-dominated power system, advanced power conversion and its control technology.

  • Solid research and teaching experience in modelling, design, analysis and control of wind power system including DFIG and PMSG, as well as stability and control in wind farm level.
  • Solid research and teaching experience in modelling, stability and control of power electronic-dominated power system with high penetration of renewable energies.
  • Familiar  with  simulation  tools  such  as  MATLAB/PLECS/PSCAD/DIGSILENT  and  hardware-in-the-loop technology for research and system validation in converter-level and wind farm-level.
  • Experience in teaching and supervision at Master and Ph.D levels with problem-based learning approach.
  • Rich research and project experience in connection with industrial community and international partners is highly preferred.
  • Research experience more than 3 years after Ph.D degree is highly preferred.
  • The  position  requires  that  the  candidate  must  have  a  very  strong  publication  record  in  highly-ranked journals and top conferences. The candidate should have the related experience in academic services and knowledge dissemination.
  • The successful applicant should be proficient in English, have strong interpersonal skills and collaborate highly with team members.

Qualification requirements: 

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.
