Postdoc in Co-design Optimization of SiC-based Power Module for MV Converter Applications (2022-224-04991)

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU Energy, a position as in Intelligent Control for Self-adapting Power Electronics to Maintain Future Power Grid Integrity is open for appointment from 01 March 2023 or soon thereafter. The position is available for a period of maximum 2.5 year.

Job description

Research and teaching  are in the absolute world elite in the field of energy, and we have extensive and leading workshop and laboratory facilities, where research and innovation are carried out in direct collaboration with industry to a great extent.

The position is offered in relation to the SiC4Grid project funded by European Commission and the research group "EMI/EMC in Power Electronics" and the Postdoc will be positioned to the section for Applied Power Electronic Systems.

Research areas will be within low-to-medium fidelity modeling of SiC power modules, digital twin modeling of SiC-based power converters including Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) modeling and analysis. The main research topics will focus on co-design optimization of SiC-based power modules for MV converter applications (MMC and SST) toward longer lifetime and lower cost.

Candidates will be expected to document strong expertise covering the following areas:
  • Digital twin-based switching behavior of SiC power module
  • Digital twin framework development for converter applications
  • Analytical time-frequency domain modeling of power converter switching function
  • Power electronics control design
  • Gate driver design and closed loop control
  • Modular design in multi-level and solid-state transformer topologies
  • Hardware and prototyping experience
The Postdoc may also support teaching primarily in Electromagnetic Interference and Power  Electronic Systems, but also in other study programmes at the University.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
