Academic employee/Staff Scientist in HPC system administration and bioinformatics, Aalborg University


The Department of Chemistry and Bioscience is looking for an independent, flexible, service minded and motivated system administrator with excellent collaborative skills to support teaching and research within the field of computer science/bioinformatics.

The successful candidate will be responsible for updating and maintaining the local servers at the department to be useful for research and teaching activities.

This includes:

  • Providing technical support to users and helping troubleshoot issues
  • Installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of software packages
  • Diagnosing server issues (Can be escalated to university ITS, when outside of area of expertise and/or privileges)
  • Running short server introduction courses for new users
  • Interacting with university IT support
  • Supporting good data management practices
  • Providing status updates and general interaction with users
  • To a lesser extent high-level scripting support to users


  • We expect minimum a BSc degree in Computer Science, Computational Biology or similar. Relevant working experience is an important advantage.
  • Fluency in English – written and oral
  • Familiarity with Linux, Bash, Python, Easybuild/Lmod, Conda, Ubuntu, R, Snakemake and Docker is an advantage.

The department is divided into two sections: Section for Bioscience and Engineering and Section for Chemical Science and Engineering, as well as one administration. Both sections have activities on both Aalborg and Esbjerg campuses. The day-to-day management is handled by the head of department, the deputy heads of research and education, and the head of the secretariat in collaboration with section leaders.

Løn og ansættelsesvilkår

Employment and salary are in accordance with the Collective Agreement for Academic Staff Employed in the State Sector. Qualification-based supplements may be granted, subject to negotiation.

There is a 3-month mutual trial period.

Aalborg University uses an electronic recruitment system for receiving applications. Towards the bottom in the respective job advertisement you will find a link, which you need to use when applying for the position.
