Postdoc in Modelling and Control of Pump Assisted Heat Pipe Systems

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, a position as postdoc in Modeling and Control of Pump Assisted Heat Pipe Systems is open for appointment from September 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is available for 24 months. The Department of Electronic Systems is one of the largest departments at Aalborg University with a total of more than 250 employees. The department is internationally recognized in particular for its contributions within Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The research and teaching of the Department of Electronic Systems focus on electronic engineering and the activity areas are organized in the sections: Antennas, Propagation and Millimetre-wave Systems section (APMS), Automation Control section (Control), Connectivity section (CNT), Signal and Information Processing section (SIP), Wireless Communication Networks section (WCN) and Communication, Media and Information technologies (CMI). The department focuses on maintaining a close interplay with the university’s surroundings - locally, nationally and internationally – as well as producing unique basic research and educating talented and creative engineers. Job description

We seek to appoint a PostDoc to take part in research and knowledge exchange in the EUDP-sponsored research project “Pump Assisted Heat Pipes for Cooling of Power Electronics”.

The project seeks to demonstrate the applicability and scalability of pump assisted heat pipes for cooling power electronic components in a novel setting.
A prototype cooling system will be designed, built and tested in close collaboration with a commercial project partner, and it shall be demonstrated that the pump assisted heat pipe technology can achieve the expected performance increase in terms of heat removal per unit volume compared to traditional (single-phase) cooling technologies. Strict spatial and environmental constraints necessitate a sophisticated control design. In addition to the practical work, it will thus be necessary to perform extensive simulations of the system design, as well as carry out detailed theoretical analyses of stability and robustness to model uncertainties and external disturbances.

The PostDoc’s role involves:

  • Research into modeling, control and optimization of pump assisted heat pipe systems
  • Design, test and demonstration of control laws for such systems
  • Dissemination to project partners and the scientific community

It is presupposed that applicants for the position as PostDoc have research qualifications from a successful PhD study in systems and control or a similar field of research. The applicants must document a record of scientific production at an international level within modeling and control.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
