The Department of Civil Engineering focuses on the technical and scientific disciplines within civil engineering. Research areas span from Indoor Environment, Wind Turbines, Structural Design, Structural Materials, Geotechnical Engineering, Wave Energy to Traffic along with many other areas. The research is conducted in a national as well as an international research environment. The Department takes on contract research for both public institutions and private companies. The research projects involve both theoretical research and in situ measurements along with laboratory experiments. As an employee at the Department of Civil Engineering you become a part of an international research environment, where focus is on innovation, knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Job description

The post doc position focuses on research and teaching within stochastic simulation of indoor environment and energy use in buildings. Teaching will mainly be related to the engineering programmes on Indoor Environmental and Energy Engineering, Building Energy Design and Architecture & Design. At bachelor level teaching is in Danish, while it is in English at Master level.

The Research Topic

The vision is to improve especially the early design stages by using high-dimensional design space spanned by thousands of statistically chosen building performance simulations (BPS) together with interactive visualizations to encourage multi-actor collaboration and design space exploration.

Objective

The objective of the post doc project is to investigate how indoor quality and energy efficiency of buildings can be improved by using Monte Carlo simulations, stochastic building simulation, sensitivity analysis and meta modeling together with innovative visualizations to aid decision-making in the early design stages.

A PhD or similar scientific qualifications in Indoor Environmental and Energy Engineering or related studies are preferable. Candidates with a documented strong background in stochastic building simulation and solid knowledge of the Danish building industry will be preferred.

You may obtain further information from Associate Professor Rasmus Lund Jensen Department of Civil Engineering, phone +45 3022 4645, email: rlj@civil.aau.dk concerning the scientific aspects of the position.

Limited teaching within the area can be expected, but also in other study programmes at the University.
