Associate Professor in Radio Channel Characterization

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, a position as Associate Professor in Radio Channel Characterization is open for appointment from November 1st or soon hereafter. The Department of Electronic Systems is one of the largest departments at Aalborg University with a total of more than 250 employees. The department is internationally recognized in particular for its contributions within Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The research and teaching of the Department of Electronic Systems focus on electronic engineering and the activity areas are organized in the sections: Antennas, Propagation and Millimetre-wave Systems section (APMS), Automation Control section (Control), Connectivity section (CNT), Signal and Information Processing section (SIP), Wireless Communication Networks section (WCN) and Communication, Media and Information technologies (CMI).

Job description

The position is with the Wireless Communication Networks (WCN) research group, which is engaged in research and teaching within wireless communications and cybersecurity. The WCN research group counts approximately 50 researchers, including Ph.D. students.

The scientific scope of the position is radio channel characterization in all its aspects – measurement, modelling and estimation – and its relevant contexts of application, such as wireless communications and (satellite- and/or terrestrial-based) localization and navigation. The research methodology heavily relies on the exploration of most advanced theoretical methods with the purpose to both expand knowledge in and design novel tools for radio channel characterization.

The successful candidate should have acquired strong skills in several of the theoretical disciplines and technical fields relevant to the scientific scope of the position. Examples of these disciplines and fields are estimation and detection theory, statistical signal processing, machine learning, stochastic modelling, communication theory, wireless communications, radar theory, localization and navigation. This theoretical expertise shall be complemented by a pronounced engineering flair.

The candidate should have received a PhD degree and have a strong research track record in the scientific scope of the position with significant, original publications in flagship journals and conferences. They can document a broad involvement in the scientific community via activities such as organization of workshops and conferences, active participation in international projects and scientific networks. They demonstrate scientific leadership by successfully securing external financing means, supervision of PhD students and/or coaching of postdoc students. Experience in industrial cooperation with R&D facilities will be an asset.

Documented pedagogical qualifications, teaching expertise, and experience in development and organization of educational activities and/or programs at undergraduate and graduate levels is a prerequisite. Teaching will primarily be in the following three master’s education programs offered by the School of Information and Communication Technology (ICT): Signal Processing and Computing, Wireless Communication Systems, and Mathematical Engineering.

Qualification requirements:

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

The application must contain the following:

  • A motivated text wherein the reasons for applying, qualifications in relation to the position, and intentions and visions for the position are stated.
  • A current curriculum vitae.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 10 publications.
  • Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio.  If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
  • Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like.
  • Additional qualifications in relation to the position.
  • References/recommendations.
  • Personal data.

The applications are only to be submitted online by using the "Apply online" button below. An assessment committee will assess all candidates.

We wish to reflect the diversity of society and welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.
